ICONS is a guessing game. The object is to guess a hidden random sequence of images created by the computer in as few guesses as possible.
Setting Up The Game
Before you start to play you decide the game's configuration. You choose two things: the length of the sequence and the possible number of icons which might be used in the sequence. For example if you choose the standard game the computer will select 6 possible icons and display them for you on the left-hand side of the screen. From these 6 icons the computer will then generate a hidden sequence with a length of 4 icons. The icons in the sequence aren't neccessarily all different. Two or more of the icons could be repeated as in the sample game.
Playing The Game
You have a maximum of 12 guesses to try to solve the answer sequence. Make a guess by clicking on one of the icons on the left which you wish to include in your guess then clicking on the location where you want it go in the current guess column. When you click on an icon on the left it becomes the active icon and is indicated by the small arrow " " . If you change your mind while deciding your guess just click over top of the previously placed icon but remember that once you submit the guess you can't go back. Once you're satisfied with the guess, click the submit button.
Reading The Clues
After each guess you are given clues (below the guess) which take the form of either a black circle or a white circle. A black circle means that one of the icons in the guess is in the answer sequence and is in the correct position. A white circle means that one of the icons in the guess is in the answer sequence but is not in the correct position. To see how this works check out the sample game. By using logic to interpret the clues you can solve the hidden sequence
